All right, so you think you are a true cosmopolitan gourmet?
You have done it all: from the Chinese at every corner, to Sushi for lunch and you started pronouncing your own name with an Italian accent for all the pasta and pizza you had in the last 20 years. You are even familiar with German sausages, Swiss Fondue and Hungarian Goulash – home made of course.
But let me tell you one thing: You haven’t made it yet to deserve the title “cosmopolitan gourmet” unless you tried “ El Mar Negro” in Fuengirola.
Located on the seafront towards the marina in Fuengirola, begins on the terrace of our restaurant a culinary journey through the varied and delicious traditional German cuisine with trips to the Andalusian cuisine.

Somewhat difficult to find is Fuengirolas best hidden gastronomical highlight:
The restaurant “Kufsteiner” in the Marina of Fuengirola. Named after a popular Austrian town on the bavarian border, its an easy guess what specialities are on offer. A mix of Austrian, Hungarian and Bavarian specialities home made and unmatched in quality.
Meson El Candil is a very cosy restaurant with a Spanish and International kitchen. We have many homemade products. Tasty Meat and Fish dishes served with homemade chips and fresh vegetables. Specialty’s like leg of baby-lamb, Chicken ROYAL, Rosada al PILPIL and more………
Possibly the smallest, yet cosiest bar in Fuengirola is bar la Bodeguita.
The Swedish owned place is also called the “Rumpan Bar” which is some kind of Swedish play with words: It means “the naked ass” . Swedish humor does my head in, and no, it is not a gay bar, if you thought that’s what it implies, naughty you!
Since the restaurant opened, Michelin culinary guide book started including the restaurant as a reference point. Swiss house embodies Costa del Sol dining experience with big flavour steaks and chops, fresh fish daily, and tasty cheese dishes—all matched with an equilibrated wine list.
Fuengirola and Mijas Costa offer hundreds of different restaurants. One would assume its easy to fine a nice place with style and good food and service amongst this multitude of restaurants in a tourist resort.
Unfortunately that is not the case. Most places are made just for the quick buck of the tourists. So-called international kitchen restaurants you can find one after the other, just walking down the beach front promenade.
But what about these really special places? You know, the ones you get excited about when you start telling zour friends.

There are many different places you could live, when moving to the Costa del Sol. I always wondered on what basis do people choose one or another town? Why not Marbella or Calahonda or Malaga?

Todays tip, when you are out and about in Fuengirola, is this rather unusual place. It is a bar in the first floor of this blue building. Its name, el Piso, is the Spanish word for “a flat”and that is actually what it is: a flat turned into a bar.
The following is a must read for everybody considering to buy a business in Fuengirola. This article has been written, simply because we are aware that there are many stories in the press, on T.V. or simply repeated in the bar over a drink.
What happens when a city is governed by a woman since the early nighties?
Well, you can see that in Fuengirola, which is at the mercy of Doña Esperanza Oña since the early nineties, I believe.
It comes as no surprises that the council of the city is predominantly female. I wonder if the amount of flowers, in and around public buildings, greenery, easy obtainable opening licences for shoe shops and the heavy restrictions on night clubs and late night venues are in direct relation with the female dominance in our town hall.

However I found particularly odd at first , that Fuengirola has, believe it or not, an official “department of equality for women”. (Concejalía para la Igualdad).

I am excited. It is my first trip to Madrid. It is my first time on the Ave high speed train.
We leave Fuengirola station at 08:45 and one hour later we arrive in Malaga to catch the 09.00 high speed train to Madrid. There is security and x-raying of bags. I find this a bit unexpected for a train.
Desalination capacity totalling 124 million m³/year lies ahead for Andalucía, according to a report produced by “Agencia Andaluza del Agua” for the Spanish Environment Minstry.
The report coincides with a call for tenders issued by regional water authority Acuamed for the second desalination plant on the western Costa del Sol at Mijas, near the Fuengirola river. Mijas will produce 55,000 m³/d.
